Kyōtanba is a place where frosty mornings meet gentle, warming sunlight.
The seasons are slowly moving toward spring, and today marks the beginning of March.
This year’s first festival begins with the “Wisteria Basket Festival.”
n the mountains and open fields of Kyōtamba, wisteria grows abundantly in the wild. On our own land as well, seeds seem to have been carried in from somewhere, and before we knew it, the vines had grown strong and vigorous, blooming into beautiful wisteria flowers. Using these fast-growing, strong yet supple wisteria vines gifted by nature, why not try weaving a basket in the size you need?
We will welcome the local “super grandpas” and “super grandmas” as our teachers, and learn from them.
“We make tools when we need them.” That is why, they said, there is no fixed form. Taking only what is needed, only when it is needed, from the natural world, they have shaped their way of living. Thinking about it that way, it feels unforced and natural—something to admire.
In nature, people come together, play with plants, and share the seasons,
We aim to create a festival that leaves everyone feeling energized and uplifted!
